The Powerful Owl is Australia's largest owl, native to the forests and woodlands of the south-east. They feed on forest mammals including possums, flying foxes and rabbits. Breeding pairs mate for life. Their call is a long, slow 'whoo-hoo'.
Owls represent qualities such as wisdom, protection, spiritual guidance and transition.I recently travelled to Japan where I visited the Kobaien Ink studio in Nara. There I was honoured with a 90 year-old ink stick, which I have used to paint this owl - you can see this beautiful ink stick in one of the photos.
For the pine tree I used a rare Kobaien Ochimatsu pine resin ink (it seemed appropriate!), and Saibiboku colours.
The painting is done on fine, handmade dragon cloud paper. The image is H:33.5cm x W: 42cm, dry mounted by the artist on Fabriano archival 300gsm paper. The quality of materials used means the beauty and value of this work will increase over time, providing you with an investment that will last for generations.
