Welcome to my fusion of Eastern and Western art, as I combine elements of both traditions to portray native Australian birds and animals.
I was born and raised in Tasmania and in recent years I have devoted myself to painting our unique and beautiful wildlife.
Over the years I have studied Western art at The Julian Ashton Art School and The Paddington Art School (in Sydney), and the UTAS School of Fine Art (in Hobart). I first discovered Chinese Brush Painting with Moli Lin in Sydney (1990) and currently work online with Henry and Victoria Li (California, US). The name on my seal stamp, 陶雅礼 is the artist name given to me by the revered Chinese brush master Yao-Wen Chen, who restores and makes paint brushes for the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan.
I use the finest Chinese and Japanese art papers, inks and colours. My style pays respect to the Gongbi (fine-line) and Xiao Xieyi (spontaneous) traditions of Chinese Brush Painting, while inevitably showing the influence of my Western training.
These prints of my original work are professionally produced on archival quality 350gsm card with lightfast ink. They should be framed under glass with acid-free mat board, and I hope they bring you joy and enhance your living space for years to come.
